In changing times like these we should know that it’s time to trust in an unchanging God.
At the beginning of each New Year, people wonder about the future. Will it be a year of unprecedented change? Will the interest rate drop? Will Israel face another war? Will a crisis rock our world? How will we survive? These are some of the questions that are being asked today.
I recently read a report on the magnetic fields shielding the earth. A research team from the magnetic observatory in Hermanus claim that the earth’s magnetic field is weakening. According to the article, life as we know it, is facing a potential threat. The instruments monitoring the magnetic anomaly are made of brass which is non-magnetic and measures magnetic fields. So what, you may ask? How will a weak magnetic field affect us? Experts claim that with a weak magnetic field the earth has less protection from solar storms and high cosmic energy particles. This in turn will interrupt electronic and electrical systems.
We have become so dependent on electronic banking and cell phone communication that fluctuations of energy will neutralise practically every modern gadget, including TV, computers and air travel. Researchers warn of an increase in the risk of skin cancer. We have no reason to doubt these warnings, but every good reason to turn to our unchanging God who has promised to be with us in every storm and trial. Rather than becoming anxious about future trends we should look to God for our help which comes from the Lord who has made heaven and earth. It’s remarkable how modern science confirms the Bible’s predictions of things that are on the horizon.
Unbelievers and those of little faith are troubled by the events shaping our world but as Christians we have nothing to fear. Like Noah’s family we are safe and divinely protected. If the storms of life come, as they so often do, remember we are, in the same boat with Jesus, our Lord, who is our captain. Hear the words of our Lord in the midst of today’s storm.
“Peace, be still”. May you have a victorious year. God Bless.
