The new secrecy bill passed in parliament this week has been decried as a blow to our democracy. The only difference is that corruption will now continue without us knowing about it. You can fool some of the people some of the time, you can even fool all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. More importantly you can fool yourself but you cannot fool God.

In the dark ages of Christian history the Bible had to be read in secret. The reading of the Bible was banned by the state authorities. Men like Coverdale, Wycliffe and Tyndale faced prosecution. William Tyndale had a fine command of the English language and left England because of the persecution to complete the New Testament in English. Tragically he was executed by the authorities before he completed the Old Testament. Less than 100 years later King James authorised the printing and distribution of the Bible in English. Not even death could silence the Truth.

We must pray for our government that God will open their eyes to the foolishness of their ways. Salvation through Christ alone was once a secret only spoken in whispers but now it’s no longer a secret what God can do. If in the future the Bible is banned you and I will hve to become God’s secret Bible. Learn to commit to memory the Bible. They may burn our Bibles but they can never destroy God’s Word in our hearts. Start reading and learning the key verses of Scripture and become “God’s Secret Bible!”
