The silly season of spending and buying items we do not need is upon us. As a believer at St Marks we ask you to be like the wise men of old. Follow the star. The costs of goods escalate in December so buy in January. If you decide to go out for a meal be wise because even the price on the menu is adjusted to cater for the silly season spending frenzy. An old friend told me the following story.

He and his wife had gone out on the 1st of December to a restaurant:

We went to breakfast where the “seniors special” was two eggs, bacon, fried tomatoes, hash browns and toast – all for R32.99. :”Sounds good,” my wife said, “But I don’t want the eggs.”
“Then I’ll have to charge you R49.50 because you’re ordering a la carte,” said the waitress.
“You mean I’d have to pay for not taking the eggs?” my wife asked incredulously. “Yes,” said the waitress.
“I’ll stick to the seniors special then,” my wife said.
“How would you like us to do your eggs?” the waitress asked.
“Raw and in the shell,” my wife said.
She took the two eggs home and baked a cake.
Don’t mess with seniors – we’ve been around the block more than once.
