Becoming a Christian by receiving Christ Jesus our Lord as Saviour through Faith is a great miracle. So many people who attend churches throughout the world are under the impression that Christians are passive people who simply love everyone. While it is true that God gives us a new nature of love it would be naïve to think that Christians do not fight. Paul, who was the greatest Christian of the 1st century declared “I have fought the good fight” 2 Timothy 4:7. Please note that he spoke of fighting for Truth and what is right. Again in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places,” Paul stated that our fight is not against people but the forces behind them who seek to undermine and destroy God’s work.
Pastors and church leaders are especially responsible for setting the example. What the church needs today is people who will fight for the Truth of the Gospel. The Christian martyr of the 1st century took a stand against heresy and corrupt teachings. Warfare is always serious and it requires the utmost diligence and awareness to the subtle tricks of the enemy of the Truth.
So if you visit our church reception in Cape Road, you will see a mannequin dressed in Roman battle gear reminiscent of the Bibles instruction to put on the whole armour of God. Truth is worth fighting for. If we lose the fight all else is lost. So let’s go to war against sin, evil, crime, corruption and false teaching. Stete – Stand Firm in the Faith!
